Introduction:
A monitoring and evaluation team from Centre for Environment Education Nepal (CEEN) conducted a field visit to three schools in Panch Pokhari under the Learning for Change Nepal project, which commenced on Learning for Change Nepal started on August 2022. The team, comprising Parshuram Niraula (Chairman of CEEN), Shrijana Satyal (Education Officer, CEEN) and Navin Gurung (Vice Chair of CEEN), aimed to assess the progress, challenges, and potential improvements of the ongoing Learning project activities in the selected schools. The visit occurred on 13th and 14th August 2023.
School Visits:
1. Shree Satkanyamati Secondary School (13th August):
– The team observed encouraging signs during interactions with the school’s management, teachers, and students.
– The equipment provided, including tablets, internet connections, bulletin boards, thermometer, altimeter, and rain gauge, were found to be utilized, although not at full capacity.
– Despite challenges such as limited school hours and frequent teacher transfers, the students displayed remarkable engagement in the project activities.
– The team recognized that there is room for improvement in the optimal utilization of the provided equipment.
– The project’s trajectory aligned with its original design, indicating positive progress towards its intended goals.
2. Shree Thangpal Valley Secondary School (13th August):
– The visit to the school revealed promising outcomes, with students actively participating in the project despite prevailing challenges.
– The equipment supplied was observed to be employed effectively, contributing to data collection and educational engagement.
– Notably, the project was successful in overcoming hurdles like limited school hours and teacher transfers.
– The team acknowledged the positive impact of the project on student engagement and environmental awareness.
– There is potential for enhancing the utilization of resources to further elevate project outcomes.
3. Shree Bhotang-Devi Secondary School (14th August):
– The team noted encouraging trends, as the project effectively engaged students even amidst difficulties.
– The provided equipment, including tablets, internet connections, bulletin boards, thermometer, altimeter, and rain gauge, were put to productive use.
– Overcoming challenges such as limited school hours and teacher transfers showcased the resilience of the project’s design.
– The team expressed confidence that the project’s current trajectory aligns with its intended objectives.
– While progress is evident, the team identified opportunities for refining resource utilization.
